As many of you will undoubtedly know there are many advantages of becoming a full member and affiliating yourself with B.B.K.A. and Y.B.K.A. but for those who are unsure, here are a few of the advantages.
Firstly, and perhaps most importantly, you get a public liability insurance cover upon joining to protect you, in this ‘where there's a blame there's a claim' society, should your bees be involved in an incident or action taken against you with regards to the same.
Free lectures are available to members at our annual spring and autumn conferences where lunch can be purchased to enable members to have full and enjoyable days out. We have an annual Field Day (hosted by the Associations and Y.B.K.A., which are full of both family and bee-related events throughout the day and based at places of interest too throughout the county. This years event (2010) was jointly run by Leeds B.K.A. and Barkstone Ash B.K.A. and the venue was the fantastic Temple Newsome Gardens on the outskirts of Leeds. Then there is the Y.B.K.A. Conference day at Bishop Burton Collage, this event brings together top speakers from not only Britain and Ireland but world-wide for your education and enjoyment, (concessions for students and junior members and a cooked three course lunch with vegetarian options is available on request, with refreshment breaks throughout the day).
You also receive a member's handbook to allow you to contact other members throughout the association with greater ease, and you will also receive a quarterly news letter published by Northern Bee Books and edited by our own chairman Bill Cadmore bringing you all the up-to-date news and views on current beekeeping events and practices & stories and topics written by other beekeepers that any member can submit.
We are currently holding an annual education course for members at the Pavilion Harrogate and this year we have based it on the B.B.K.A. Beekeeping Husbandry Course, a full day course with three top tutors for members wishing to further their beekeeping knowledge. Details of all these and many other interesting articles for our members are detailed on various pages of this web site.
We are also always looking for dynamic members to come and join us on the Y.B.K.A. committee to run or organise new and exiting talks and activities for our members, be it at our headquarters at Harrogate or at one of your own local venues if preferred. All ideas will be welcomed and looked at.
Please remember always to check here on our Yorkshire Beekeepers web site for all the events, promotions, news and members stories or articles of interest which are always welcome at any time from any one of you. We look forward to meeting and hearing from all new or existing members at any time on anything you have to say or anything you feel is being neglected by us at the Y.B.K.A .

BULK ORDER SCHEME
Order Forms for the 2012 BULK ORDER (Foundation, Varroa treatments & fleeces) have now been circulated to Branch secretaries. We have made great efforts to keep the prices as low as possible, despite Thornes insistence that world prices have spiralled this year, so we would definitely recommend members take full advantage. ONLY ONE summary order form for each branch should be submitted : orders from individual members will not be accepted. The Deadline for submission : Saturday, 3rd December or before via post or e-mail or at the YBKA AGM.
